Wyze recall affects over 320,000 security cameras after fire and burn hazard reports

Wyze is recalling its Solar Cam Pan security cameras after safety concerns tied to the way the devices are installed. According to the company and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the issue can lead users to puncture the lithium-ion battery casing, which creates a fire and burn hazard.

The recall applies to Solar Cam Pan security cameras purchased on or before April 3, 2026. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 321,360 units were sold in the US, with about 2,560 more sold in Canada.

What Wyze says went wrong

Wyze said incorrect installation instructions can cause users to accidentally pierce the battery’s metal casing. If that happens, the battery can overheat rapidly and may cause serious injury or property damage.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said it has received 13 reports of cameras overheating. It also reported six incidents involving explosions and fires, including six reports of minor burns.

How to check if your camera is affected

The recalled devices are white and carry model number WYZESCPWH, which is located on the back of the camera. Wyze said affected cameras were sold through Home Depot, Micro Center, Wyze’s website, Temu, Amazon, B2B Renew, Inc., ReturnPro and Best Buy.

If you own one, Wyze says to stop using it immediately if you attached the solar panel bracket to the top of the camera with the long flat-head wood screw. If you are unsure which screw you used, the company says you can use its step-by-step guide to check.

Wyze also says owners can dismantle the camera to inspect it visually, but recommends downloading the necessary firmware first and waiting 48 hours for the battery to drain completely.

What Wyze is offering

Customers affected by the recall can choose a free replacement camera with a solar panel accessory, a full refund, or a gift card for the original purchase price. Wyze says a receipt is not required to take part in the recall.

To participate, owners need to fill out a form, receive specialized firmware to deplete the battery, and then dispose of the recalled camera according to local and state regulations. Wyze says the recalled camera will be disabled and no longer function after the process.
